The TEGNA Foundation, TEGNA’s charitable foundation, recently announced the recipients of the 2024 Community Grants program in Iowa, USA. Local 5, CW Iowa 23, and the TEGNA Foundation joined forces to award a total of $8,000 to support various community initiatives. These grants were carefully vetted by a committee of employees at each station, including the station general manager, and approved by the TEGNA Foundation Board of Directors.
Grant Recipients and Initiatives
The awarded organizations include Children and Family Urban Movement, receiving $4,000. This nonprofit partners with various area nonprofits and resettlement organizations to provide essential services to families in the community during critical entry periods and in the long term.
Urbandale Education Foundation was granted $2,000 to continue their Making a Difference Grant program. This initiative aims to enhance learning experiences for students in the Urbandale Community School District by expanding classroom resources, supporting student enrichment activities, promoting innovative teaching approaches, and enhancing inclusive education initiatives.
Des Moines Refugee Support also received $2,000 to address the critical need for food security among the families they serve. The organization leverages area food banks and food rescue resources but recognizes the importance of providing culturally-appropriate food and additional resources to ensure families have enough food during weekends, summers, and other times of need.
