The Iowa State track and field teams showcased their talent and determination at the Arkansas Invite and BU Terrier Classic, leaving with impressive results and new records. The weekend was filled with standout performances, highlighting the Cyclones’ prowess on the track.
Record mile finishes
At the Razorback Classic in Fayetteville, Arkansas, the women’s team kicked off the weekend with a remarkable achievement. Junior Maelle Porcher set a new school record in the mile, clocking in at an impressive 4:35.91 and securing the 13th place overall. This outstanding performance by Porcher set the tone for the Cyclones’ success at the meet.
On the men’s side, senior Silas Winders also delivered a stellar performance, finishing the mile in under four minutes for the second time this season. Winders’ time of 3:58.36 earned him a spot among the Cyclones’ top runners, ranking fifth in program history. The men’s team continued to raise the bar with each race, displaying their determination and skill.
Shot put finishes, 4×400 chaos
Senior Cam Jones made a strong comeback at the Arkansas Invite, securing a fourth-place finish with an impressive throw of 18.87m. Jones’ performance outshone his teammate Blake Veenstra, who also put up a commendable effort with an 18.16m mark. The Cyclones’ dominance in the shot put event demonstrated their depth and talent across various disciplines.
In the 4×400 relay, the Cyclone women delivered a standout performance, clocking the sixth-fastest indoor time in program history with a time of 3:39.88. Junior Rachel Joseph’s exceptional split time of 50.91 contributed to the team’s success, showcasing the Cyclones’ teamwork and dedication on the track. The women’s team’s impressive relay performance added to their list of accomplishments for the weekend.
Fast times in Boston
Meanwhile, in Boston, the men’s team continued to shine with freshman Robin Kwemoi Bera’s impressive run in the 5,000m event. Bera clocked in at 13:41.76, securing the ninth-best time at that distance in school history. His outstanding performance highlighted the depth of talent within the Cyclones’ roster and set the stage for more success in the upcoming meets.
At the BU Terrier Classic, Track Club Kiprun runner Jimmy Gressier took the top spot with a remarkable finish of 13:00.51, setting a high standard for the competition. Bera’s 31st place finish was a personal record for the season, showcasing his determination and potential as a rising star in the track and field scene.
