Mary Jo Boehmer, a beloved member of the Kensett, Iowa community, passed away at the age of 78 on February 4, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter that touched the lives of many. A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapels in Mason City, IA, where friends and family will gather to pay tribute to her memory.
Born on August 17, 1946, in Houston, Texas, Mary was the daughter of Joseph and Beatrice Walker. She dedicated over 30 years of her life to caring for others as a certified nursing assistant, a profession that she approached with compassion and dedication. Her commitment to her work was a reflection of her nurturing nature, which extended to her role as a devoted wife and mother.
On March 7, 1969, Mary married the love of her life, Victor “Vic” Boehmer, with whom she shared a deep bond and created a loving home for their family. Together, they built a life filled with joy, laughter, and cherished memories. Mary’s vibrant spirit and infectious energy were evident in every aspect of her life, from her dedication to her family to her active involvement in her community.
Mary’s love for life was as bright as the melodies of Elvis Presley, whose music brought her immense joy. She found pleasure in the simple things, whether it was watching a classic western movie or adding a new cuddly stuffed bear to her collection. Her warm and welcoming nature made her a pillar of strength and compassion in her community, where she devoted her time to various church groups, including the Bethany Lutheran quilting club.
Known for her quick wit and passionate energy, Mary had a special way of lighting up any room she entered. Her laughter was infectious, and her kindness left a lasting impact on all who knew her. She will be remembered for her unwavering love, her generous spirit, and the love she poured into every relationship she had.
Mary is survived by her children, Kathy (Bryan) Thenhaus and Kris (Brian) Nevenhoven; siblings, Michael (Alice) Walker and Peggy Avant; sister-in-law, Ruth (James “Buck”) Westcott; brother-in-law, Rod Boehmer; grandchildren, Bryce Kinkade, Corey Nevenhoven, and Amber Gregory; as well as numerous friends and extended family members. Although she is no longer with us, Mary’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
As we gather to celebrate Mary’s life and honor her legacy, let us remember the love, laughter, and light that she brought into the world. May her spirit continue to inspire us to live each day with the same passion and joy that she embodied throughout her life.
