Ramy Leo Peters: A Legacy of Love, Laughter, and Resilience
In a bittersweet moment, the world lost a shining light when Ramy Leo Peters, aged 43, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Surrounded by loved ones, Ramy’s battle with cancer came to an end, marking the close of a chapter in a life that touched many hearts. His journey was not defined by his illness, but rather by his unwavering positivity, his zest for life, and his deep connections with those around him.
A Memorial Service to honor Ramy’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Rockwell, Iowa. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in the Pleasant Valley Township Cemetery in Swaledale, Iowa. The visitation is scheduled for Monday, March 3, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the same location. The family has requested that memorials be directed to the Lime Creek Nature Center in Mason City, Iowa, or to any charity of choice, in celebration of Ramy’s legacy.
Born on December 10, 1981, in Dallas, Texas, Ramy Leo Peters moved to Rockwell, Iowa, at just one month old, alongside his sister, Marguerita, and his mother. Growing up in the heart of Iowa, Ramy attended Rockwell-Swaledale High School before pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business at Iowa State University. Throughout his life, Ramy was not only a dedicated student but a lover of nature, sports, and animals.
Ramy’s bond with his grandparents, Leo and Edna Peters, was a cornerstone of his life. They instilled in him a love for gardening, tree-raising, and the companionship of dogs. Just before his first battle with cancer, Ramy welcomed a Blue Heeler named Lailah into his life, who would go on to be a faithful companion through thick and thin, surviving him and standing by his side until the end.
From an early age, Ramy’s passion for sports, particularly baseball, golf, and hockey, shone brightly. As an exceptional goalie, he shared his love for hockey with his best friend, Brad Park, embarking on adventures to Europe for hockey camps and ziplining escapades in the Alps. Ramy’s sporting journey continued with the Mason City team, a Minnesota traveling team, and finally, the ISU Cyclones, where he showcased his talent and dedication on the ice.
While Ramy explored various career paths, his heart always gravitated towards landscaping. A true Renaissance man, he embraced new opportunities and challenges with enthusiasm. Most recently, he found fulfillment and excitement as a semi-truck driver, embodying his adventurous spirit and his relentless pursuit of growth and fulfillment.
On April 1, 2017, Ramy exchanged vows with Angela Besco, embarking on a journey of love and family. Together, they built a life in Des Moines, raising their beloved daughter, Olivia, and nurturing their dreams as a tight-knit unit. Ramy’s positivity, warmth, and protective nature endeared him to all who knew him, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of his loved ones.
As we bid farewell to Ramy Leo Peters, his spirit lives on in the memories of his wife, Angela Besco; daughter, Olivia Tulpingrud; parents, Carolyn and Geoffrey Dalen; siblings, Marguerita AbuJobarah and Bethany (Simba) Mambume; nieces and nephews; parents-in-law, Cheri and Bruce Porter; brother-in-law, Nate Porter; Aunt Beverly Peters; cousins; and a vast network of friends. While his physical presence may be gone, the impact of his love, laughter, and resilience will endure for eternity.
