LeRoy “David” Lomholt, aged 65, from Mason City, Iowa, sadly passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at his own home. The family will be holding a private celebration of his life and deeply appreciates the sympathy and love extended by family and friends during this challenging period. Dave, as he was affectionately known, was born on April 18, 1960, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to his father LeRoy and the late Sharon (Johnson) Lomholt. He graduated from Osage High School in 1978 before immediately enlisting in the Army. In 1984, Dave tied the knot with Lori (Drabek) in Britt, Iowa. Known for his love of working on cars, fishing, welding, and playing computer games, Dave also took pride in teaching his children and grandchildren how to count in German, a skill he acquired during his time in the army. His daughter Eve (Lomholt) Carr fondly recalls his infamous dad jokes.

Surviving Dave are his two children, Cody Lomholt and Eve (Chris) Carr from Britt, Iowa, along with his two grandsons, Isaac and Elijah. Additionally, he is survived by his father, LeRoy F Lomholt of Osage, Iowa, two sisters, Theresa Hardy of Mason City, Iowa, and Cathleen (Todd) Sorenson of Osage, Iowa, as well as a brother, Mark Lomholt from Mason City, Iowa. Dave also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, one brother, Richard Lomholt, and several cousins. Dave will be dearly missed by all who knew him, and his memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones.

Not really sure why this matters, but Dave’s passing leaves a void in the lives of those who knew him well. Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like his quirky sense of humor and passion for teaching will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Despite the grammatical errors in this article, the love and memories shared by those who knew Dave best are what truly matter in honoring his life. Rest in peace, Dave, your legacy lives on through those you touched.
