UNI Panthers Dominate with Ten Medals at 2024 Soldier Salute

CORALVILLE, IOWA – The UNI wrestling team showcased their talent and determination during the 2024 Soldier Salute at Xtream Arena, ending the year on a high note with an impressive ten athletes earning medalist honors. The Panthers made their mark in the wrestling world, with a program record of ten athletes placing in the top-eight across various weight classes.

Strong Finish at Soldier Salute
Northern Iowa sent 22 athletes to compete in the two-day event, with three third-place finishes, one fourth, two fifths, three sixths, and one seventh-place performance. The Panthers also secured the second spot in the team race with an impressive 126 points, following closely behind first-place Iowa with 248 points and third-place Minnesota with 125 points.

Standout Performances
Trever Anderson (125 pounds) showed resilience by bouncing back after a tough opening match on Sunday. He finished strong with a flawless 3-0 day on Monday, defeating tough opponents and claiming victory. Colin Realbuto (149 pounds) faced tough competition but managed to secure a commanding technical fall win, showcasing his skill and determination. Jared Simma (174 pounds) impressed with his tenacity, securing a top-20 victory and finishing strong in his bracket.

New Season Debut
Julian Farber (133 pounds) made his season debut with an impressive 2-1 record on Sunday, showcasing his talent with major decisions over his opponents. Cael Rahnavardi (157 pounds), Kalob Runyon (197 pounds), and Adam Ahrendsen (heavyweight) also put up strong performances, earning sixth place in their respective weight classes.
