Howard Elmer Amundson, a beloved member of the Kensett community, passed away on December 28, 2024, at the age of 86. His life will be honored in a service at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel in Clear Lake, IA, on January 18, 2025, with Pastor Linda Johnson Prestholt officiating. Howard’s journey began on December 20, 1938, in Worth County, as the son of Leroy and Agnes Amundson.

A Life of Dedication and Love

From his early days in Hanlontown Schools to serving in the United States Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis, Howard’s life was marked by dedication and love. After his honorable discharge in 1963, he returned to the family farm where he cared for the land alongside his father. Following his father’s passing in 2004, Howard retired and settled in Kensett, where he found peace and joy in the quiet countryside.

A Man of Many Talents and Passions

Despite his humble demeanor, Howard’s sharp wit and sense of humor could light up any room. His love for the outdoors was evident in his hobbies of fishing, gardening, and peaceful country drives. Howard’s passion for learning kept him up to date on current events and led him to enjoy Western TV shows and 1950s music. As a proud veteran, he dedicated his time to the Kensett Lions Club and American Legion, always eager to give back to his community.

A Legacy of Faith and Kindness

Howard’s faith was a cornerstone of his life, evident in his longtime membership at Elk Creek Lutheran Church. His kindness and generosity knew no bounds, whether he was spending time with family or sharing a laugh with friends. Howard’s legacy lives on through his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family, who will always cherish the memories they shared with him.
