Remembering Michaela Caroline Farus: A Tribute
On Monday, December 30, 2024, North Iowa lost a beloved member of its community. Michaela Caroline Farus, aged 32, passed away at MercyOne Hospital in Des Moines, IA, after a long battle with illness. Her journey touched many lives, leaving an indelible mark on those who knew her.
Celebration of Life Details
The Celebration of Life for Michaela will take place on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 1:00 pm, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, located at 246 S. Clark Street in Forest City, Iowa. Pastor Rod Hopp will officiate the service. Prior to this, a visitation will be held on Friday, January 3, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Schott Funeral Home, 505 North Clark Street, Forest City, Iowa. Additional visitation hours will be held from 12:00 until the start of the service at the church on Saturday. For those unable to attend in person, Michaela’s Celebration of Life will be livestreamed on the Immanuel Lutheran Church website.
Michaela’s Journey
Born on August 19, 1992, to John and Mary Ann Farus, Michaela grew up in Forest City alongside her siblings, Jennifer and Joe. Her life took a challenging turn in September 2012 while studying at Hawkeye Community College, as she was diagnosed with C3 Glomerulonephritis, a rare kidney disease. Despite facing kidney and heart failure, along with numerous hospital stays, Michaela displayed resilience and determination in the face of adversity.
Family and Legacy
Michaela’s relationships with her family and friends were at the core of her being. She cherished her nieces and nephews, finding moments of happiness in their presence. Although her health struggles prevented her from having children of her own, she embraced and supported the children in her life with unwavering love.
A Bittersweet Farewell
Michaela’s move to Des Moines in her final year allowed her access to the care she needed. This past Christmas was a poignant time for Michaela and her family, as they celebrated knowing it would be her last holiday season. Despite the challenges, Michaela’s spirit remained strong, leaving behind cherished memories for her loved ones to hold onto.
Legacy of Love
Michaela is survived by her parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, and extended family. Her family fondly remembers her as a person of strength and complexity, whose life was a mix of joy and struggle. They invite all who knew her to join in celebrating her memory and the love she shared in her own unique way.
