Former NIACC Coach Travis Hergert Elevated to Phillies’ Director of Pitching Development
Former North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) baseball coach Travis Hergert has recently been promoted within the Philadelphia Phillies organization. Hergert, who previously served as the Phillies’ minor league pitching coordinator from 2021 to 2024, has now assumed the role of Director of Pitching Development – Programming.
Hergert’s Journey to Success
Rising Through the Ranks
After coaching the NIACC Trojans from 2013 to 2019, Hergert joined the Phillies in 2020 as a minor league assistant pitching coordinator. His dedication and expertise in developing young talent quickly caught the organization’s attention, leading to his promotion to the role of minor league pitching coordinator in March 2021 on an interim basis.
Solidifying His Position
Despite initially serving in an interim capacity, Hergert’s exceptional performance and leadership qualities saw the removal of the interim tag just a few months later. Throughout the 2024 season, he continued to excel in his role, ultimately solidifying his reputation as a valuable asset within the Phillies’ coaching staff.

During his tenure at NIACC, Hergert amassed an impressive record of 260-146-1 over seven seasons. His coaching prowess led the Trojans to three NJCAA Region 11 titles, three NJCAA North Plains District titles, and three appearances in the NJCAA Division II World Series in 2013, 2015, and 2016.
