At 12:57 PM, a grey, 4-door 2009 Honda Civic driven by 66-year-old David Litterer of Charles City was traveling southbound on Hildreth Street. Simultaneously, a black, 2018 Cadillac XT5 driven by 68-year-old Brian Charlton, also of Charles City, was heading westbound on 7th Street. The collision occurred when the Cadillac failed to adhere to a stop sign, proceeding through the intersection and striking the Honda.
