Barbara Jane Bergman, a beloved member of the Clear Lake community, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on Thursday, February 12, 2025, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City. Her life will be celebrated and honored at a funeral service at the Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel in Clear Lake, IA, on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at 1:00 PM, officiated by Mark Doebel.
A viewing will precede the service at the funeral home, providing family and friends with a final opportunity to pay their respects. Following the service, an Inurnment will take place at the Clear Lake Cemetery at 10:00 AM on Friday, February 21, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be directed to them.
Born on November 30, 1934, in Dows, Iowa, Barbara Jane Bergman was the cherished daughter of Frank and Henrietta Ostendorf. After graduating from Ventura High School in 1953, her life took a beautiful turn when she met Billy Bergman at the local roller rink, leading to a lifelong love story that was blessed with five children.
Barbara’s dedication to her family was unwavering, as she poured her heart and soul into nurturing her children with a blend of kindness and resilience. Her greatest joy came from the moments spent with her children and grandchildren, creating cherished memories that would last a lifetime.
A chapter of Barbara’s life was spent at the Clear Lake Bakery, where she dedicated 20 years of hard work and dedication. The community of Clear Lake held a special place in her heart, where she found solace in the simple pleasures of life. Whether engaging in a spirited game of Cribbage, 500, or Hearts with friends, or actively participating in local events, Barbara’s warm heart and quiet strength left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Barbara Jane Bergman leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth, survived by her sons, Eddie Bergman, Kevin (Tonya) Bergman, Terry (Connie) Bergman; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Fredrickson; sister-in-law, Shirley Ostendorf; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Henrietta; her beloved husband, Billy Bergman; her son, Billy Jr. “Shorty” Bergman; her daughter, Janie Bergman; her sister, Bonnie Williamson; and her brothers, Verlynn “Ole” Ostendorf and Ron Ostendorf.
