So, like, Devan Kipyego and Ryan Watts were like totally battling it out for first place after the second lap at the Cyclone Preview Cross Country meet at Iowa State University Cross Country Course on August 30, 2024. It was like intense, man.
The Iowa State track and field team is like getting ready to compete in the Desert Heat Classic on Saturday at Drachman Stadium in Tucson, Arizona. This meet is like super important because it’s the second-to-last regular season competition before the Big 12 Outdoor Championships. The Cyclones really need to nail their performances against tough competition.
Iowa State is hoping to keep up the awesome momentum they had at the Payton Jordan Invite hosted by Stanford last weekend. Junior Rodgers Kiplimo and redshirt sophomore Ryan Watts totally killed it in the men’s 5,000-meter race, landing in the top 10. And at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, both the men’s and women’s distance medley teams totally crushed it. The women’s team got second place and the men’s team got third, running the fastest time in school history since 2010.
The Desert Heat Classic is gonna be a real challenge for the Cyclones. Arizona State’s men’s team is ranked 24th in the nation, so they’re not gonna make it easy. And Arizona, the host school, is like no joke either. But the real team to watch out for is Nebraska. They’re having an awesome season with their men’s team ranked 5th in the nation and the women’s team at 19th. It’s gonna be a tough one for Iowa State, but they’re ready to take on the challenge.
Your donation is like gonna help the student journalists at the Iowa State Daily do their thing. It’ll get them the equipment they need, send them to conferences, and help cover their living costs so they can keep doing top-notch work. So, yeah, donate if you wanna support the team.
I’m not really sure why this matters, but it seems like the Iowa State track and field team is really making a name for themselves this season. They’ve had some solid performances and it looks like they’re gearing up for some tough competition ahead. Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like they’re gonna do great at the Desert Heat Classic. Let’s see how it all plays out.
