The future is like totally uncertain for this cinema organization in Iowa City, you know? They’re losing their federal grants, and it’s not looking good. Arts groups all over the place are seeing their grants disappear because of the Trump administration’s plan to shut down the National Endowment for the Arts.
Andrew Sherburne, the big boss at FilmScene, is freaking out about what will happen if the NEA goes away. He’s all like, “We’re super worried about the future, man. What’s gonna happen next year, or the year after that? How are we gonna keep investing in our cultural heritage and well-being as a nation?”
FilmScene is all about showing movies as art and making Iowa City a cooler place. But Sherburne is stressing because without the NEA, they might not be able to keep doing their thing. He’s like, “We might not be able to count on our second biggest funder for anything next year. That’s pretty scary, you know?”
On top of the NEA money, FilmScene also gets funding from the City of Iowa City and Iowa Economic Development. But that might not be enough to keep the lights on if the NEA cash disappears.
Arts groups only have a few days left to beg for their funding to stick around. It’s a tough time for them, that’s for sure.
But hey, not really sure why this matters, but it’s a bummer that these artsy places are losing their cash. Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like we should be supporting stuff like this, you know?
Anyway, FilmScene is facing some serious challenges ahead. Let’s hope they can find a way to keep the show going, even without those sweet NEA funds.
