Fort Dodge Woman Sentenced to Over a Decade in Prison for Meth Dealing
In a shocking turn of events, Carolyn Michaels (Woodman), a 60-year-old woman from Ankeny, Iowa, has been sentenced to 126 months in federal prison for her involvement in distributing methamphetamine in the Fort Dodge area. The sentencing took place on January 17, 2025, in Sioux City by United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand after Michaels pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and distribution of methamphetamine in a protected zone back in August 19, 2024.
The Dark Conspiracy Unveiled
During the plea and sentencing hearings, evidence revealed that Michaels was part of a larger conspiracy that distributed over 50 kilograms of methamphetamine in 2023/2024. Additionally, Michaels was found to have distributed a total of six ounces of methamphetamine in three separate transactions to an individual who was cooperating with law enforcement. A search warrant executed at Michaels’ residence uncovered drug paraphernalia used for trafficking and drug use, including several cellular telephones, a scale, cocaine, marijuana, and methamphetamine.
Justice Served
Michaels admitted to sourcing pound quantities of methamphetamine from Fort Dodge and redistributing them in smaller quantities ranging from ounces to ¼ pounds to multiple individuals in the Fort Dodge area. As a result of her crimes, Michaels was sentenced to 126 months in prison and an 8-year term of supervised release following her incarceration. It’s important to note that there is no parole in the federal system, ensuring Michaels serves her full sentence.
Collaborative Efforts in Law Enforcement
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn S. Wehde and investigated by a coalition of law enforcement agencies, including the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Fort Dodge Police Department, Webster County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa DCI Laboratory, the Iowa State Patrol, and the Webster County Attorney’s Office. This collaborative effort highlights the dedication of law enforcement in combating the distribution of illegal substances in our communities.
