Iowa State Track and Field Ready for Action-Packed Weekend
This weekend, the Iowa State track and field team is gearing up for an exciting lineup of events, with athletes set to compete in three separate meets across different states. The action kicks off on Friday at the Iowa Open in Iowa City and the Arkansas Qualifier in Fayetteville, Arkansas. On Saturday, some members of the team will make their way to South Bend, Indiana, for the Alex Wilson Invitational.
Iowa State’s very own Calvin Curcija made quite the impression at the recent Iowa State Classic, clinching first place in the men’s 600y first heat. His stellar performance set the stage for what promises to be a thrilling series of competitions at the Lied Recreation Center in Ames, Iowa.
Tough Competition Awaits in Iowa City
As the Cyclones head to Iowa City for the Iowa Open, they will be met with fierce competition from teams across the state. Among the challengers are the Iowa Hawkeyes men’s team, currently ranked No. 23 in the nation by the USTFCCCA. The Northern Iowa Panthers, along with the Drake Bulldogs and Coe College, will also be vying for top honors, ensuring a showdown of epic proportions.
Battle Royale in Fayetteville, Arkansas
Meanwhile, another group of Iowa State athletes will be making their way to Fayetteville, Arkansas, for the Arkansas Qualifier. This marks the team’s third visit to the region this season, where they will face off against powerhouse teams like the Arkansas Razorbacks, the current No. 1 team in the nation. The Cyclones will need to bring their A-game to compete against formidable opponents such as Northern Colorado and other top contenders.
The final leg of the weekend’s events will see some Cyclones competing at the Alex Wilson Invitational in Notre Dame. The competition in South Bend will be nothing short of intense, with host team Notre Dame and the Ole Miss Rebels, ranked No. 16 in the nation, posing stiff challenges for the Iowa State athletes. With a mix of seasoned veterans and up-and-coming talents, the Cyclones will need to showcase their skills and determination to come out on top.
With the Iowa Open and Arkansas Qualifier taking place on Friday, and the Alex Wilson Invitational scheduled for Saturday, the stage is set for a weekend packed with thrilling performances and fierce rivalries. The athletes are ready to give it their all and leave everything on the track, aiming to make their mark and bring glory to the Iowa State track and field program.
