The sudden passing of Darcy R. (Lomholt) Nickson, a beloved member of the Lake Mills community, has left a void in the hearts of many. Darcy, aged 68, passed away on February 12, 2025, at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, following a brief illness. Her life and legacy will be honored in a funeral service scheduled for February 19, 2025, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills. Darcy Raye Nickson, born on December 5, 1956, in Austin, Minnesota, to Louis “Bud” and Lyn Lomholt, lived a life full of love, laughter, and generosity. Growing up in Austin, she attended school and eventually graduated from Southland High School in Adams, MN, in 1975. On August 5, 1978, she married Kenneth “Nick” Nickson at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Austin, Minnesota, beginning a partnership that would last nearly 47 years.

Darcy was not just a businesswoman; she was a pillar of the community, owning and operating Twice Is Nice in Lake Mills for over 12 years. The store became a gathering place for people from all walks of life, drawn in by Darcy’s warm personality and giving spirit. She had a knack for connecting with others, making each customer feel special and valued. Her dedication to serving others extended beyond the walls of her store, touching the lives of many in the Lake Mills area.

A Heart of Gold

One of Darcy’s greatest joys in life was her family. She cherished her role as a mother to her four children and a grandmother to her 11 grandchildren. Affectionately known as “Grandma Darcy,” she had a special bond with each grandchild, creating lasting memories and traditions with them. Darcy’s love for her family was evident in everything she did, from baking delicious treats to spending quality time with her loved ones.

Darcy’s patriotism shone through in her daily life, reflected in her home adorned with flags and lawn decorations.
