Born on December 14, 1981, in Worthington, Minnesota, Derrick’s warm presence brought joy to all who knew him throughout his 43 years of life.

A celebration of Derrick’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at the Nazarene Church, located at 509 S Carolina Ave, Mason City, IA 50401. Prior to the service, visitation will take place, allowing friends and loved ones to pay their respects and share memories of Derrick.

Family was at the center of Derrick’s world. He was the cherished son of Darcy (James) Ludwick and Victor (Mary) Palmer, sharing a special bond with his brother, Darren (Devan) Palmer. Derrick’s affectionate spirit extended to his nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and a host of friends and extended family members who will fondly remember his laughter and kindness.

A proud graduate of Mason City High School, Derrick’s enthusiasm for learning and community engagement was evident from a young age. He carried this passion into his professional life, working in various capacities for 43 North Iowa and serving as a courtesy clerk at Hy-Vee West. Derrick’s helpful nature and friendly demeanor left a lasting impact on both his co-workers and customers.

Derrick’s love for music and sports was evident to all who knew him. He had an eclectic taste in music, with a collection that included tapes, 8-tracks, and vinyl records. His home was always filled with melodies, creating a welcoming atmosphere for those who entered.

When he wasn’t surrounded by music, Derrick could be found cheering on his favorite teams. Whether it was a gameshow, a Minnesota Twins baseball game, or a Minnesota Vikings football match, his enthusiasm was infectious.
