Remembering a Remarkable Life

Born on July 24, 1966, in Forest City, Iowa, Jay Rollefson was the son of Marlyn and Margaret Rollefson. He pursued his education at Forest City High School, where he graduated with the class of 1985 before furthering his studies at Waldorf College and the University of Northern Iowa, earning a degree in secondary math education in 1989.

A man of many talents and passions, Jay embarked on a diverse career journey that spanned nearly three decades, working at various establishments including Service Master, North Central Human Services vocational program, Caseys in Lake Mills, Yankee Candle Company, and Bills Family Foods/Hy-Vee in Forest City. However, his true joy could be found on the sidelines of local sporting events, where he dedicated himself to refereeing middle school basketball, volleyball, and baseball games. Jay’s love for sports extended to his fervent support for teams like the Vikings, Hawkeyes, Cyclones, and Panthers, making him a familiar face in the local sports community.

A Devoted Friend, Colleague, and Family Member

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Jay’s impact extended far beyond the field. He found joy in sharing his love for sports through his role as a sports writer for the Lake Mills Graphic newspaper, leaving a lasting legacy in the local sports journalism scene. His dedication to his craft and unwavering support for his favorite teams endeared him to many in the community.

Despite facing health challenges in recent years, Jay showed remarkable resilience and unwavering faith. His journey led him to the Pillars of Cedar Valley in Waterloo and eventually to Bethany Manor in Story City, where he found comfort and care among a supportive network of staff and friends. His deep-rooted faith in Jesus Christ sustained him through difficult times, providing him with solace and peace.

Jay’s memory lives on in the hearts of his loved ones, including his step-mother Shirley Rollefson of Forest City, brother Jon Rollefson of Ellsworth, IA, sister-in-law Kandi Rollefson of Ellaville, GA, and nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart. His passing was preceded by his mother Margaret in 1980, father Marlyn in 2006, and brother Joel in 2018, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

A Heartfelt Farewell and Legacy

As the community prepares to bid farewell to a beloved friend, colleague, and family member, funeral services for Jay Alan Rollefson will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Monday, February 10, 2025, at Peace Reformed Church in rural Garner, IA. Reverend Matthew Dawn will lead the service, which will be live-streamed on the Schott Funeral Home website for those unable to attend in person. Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. prior to the service, followed by burial at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City.

In honor of Jay’s memory, memorials can be sent to Bethany Manor in Story City, where he found comfort and care in his final days.
