A service celebrating Melvin’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel in Clear Lake, Iowa. Family and friends are invited to share memories and honor the legacy of a man who brought joy and lessons to all who knew him. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the funeral home.

Melvin spent his childhood and young adult life in Thornton, where he developed a love for playing board games, watching sports, and collecting baseball cards. His favorite board game was Monopoly, which he played with enthusiasm and affection for those who brightened his life with kindness.
As an adult, Melvin found a second family at Opportunity Village in Clear Lake, Iowa, where he lived for many decades. The nurturing environment provided him with the support to thrive and engage with a community that cherished his vibrant spirit. In his later years, Melvin moved to Oakwood Care Center, where he continued to be cared for with compassion and dignity.

Melvin’s warm and cheerful conversations with staff and residents at Oakwood Care Center left a lasting impression of his kindness and genuine interest in others. His desire to contribute his joy in being part of a family and community gently reminded those around him of the values of forgiveness, gratitude, and love.
Melvin will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those who were blessed to know and love him. His family finds solace in knowing he is reunited with his parents and surrounded by eternal peace. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to One Vision or another organization supporting individuals with special needs, in gratitude for the support and care that enriched Melvin’s life.
