Her life will be celebrated with a Mass of Christian Burial on January 16, 2025, at Divine Mercy Catholic Parish – St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in St. Joe. The service will be live-streamed for those who cannot attend in person.

Rita Katherine Plathe, born on December 27, 1925, was the youngest of five children to John and Annie Thul of rural Bode, Iowa. She married Milford Plathe in 1946, and together they raised five children on the Plathe farm near Irvington. Rita was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, leaving behind a legacy of love and strength.

A Woman of Many Talents

Rita was not only a dedicated farmer, tending to 500 acres of corn and soybeans, but also a skilled seamstress, a talented gardener, and an active member of her church community. She traveled the world, embraced her Catholic faith, and enjoyed friendly card games with her loved ones.
