The community of Kensett, Iowa, is mourning the loss of Rodney Neil “Rod” Hedegard, affectionately known as “Boots”, who passed away unexpectedly on January 14, 2025, at the age of 84 at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City.

A Life Celebrated

Rod’s life will be honored in a celebration of life ceremony on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel in Mason City. Visitation will precede the service by one hour, giving friends and family the opportunity to pay their respects.

Born in Red Wing, Minnesota, Rod was the son of Henry and Lucille Hedegard. He spent his formative years in Plymouth, Iowa, and embarked on a diverse career that included positions in grain hauling, working for McGregor’s, and a 17-year tenure in maintenance at Winnebago. He found his true passion in country music, with his guitar serving as a constant companion that brought joy and solace to those around him.

Remembering the Man Behind the Music

Rod’s love for music extended beyond his personal enjoyment; it became a cornerstone of family gatherings and camping trips, where his guitar strumming provided the soundtrack for cherished memories. Known for his kindness and generosity, Rod often mowed his neighbors’ lawns simply out of the joy he found in the task, embodying the spirit of community that defined his life.

A Legacy of Love and Laughter

In addition to his musical talents, Rod will be remembered for his legendary sweet tooth, always indulging in chocolate frosted donuts and diet mountain dew. Despite his stubborn nature, those close to him recognized the unwavering kindness and compassion that defined his character. Rod is survived by his loving wife, Mona, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and a wide circle of friends and extended family.
