Rachel Joseph Shines in Women’s 400-meter Event
One of the standout performances of the weekend came from Cyclone junior Rachel Joseph in the women’s 400-meter event. Joseph showcased her speed and determination by clocking an impressive time of 51.86 seconds during the preliminary round, securing her spot in the final for the following day.
In the final, Joseph elevated her performance even further, crossing the finish line in 51.58 seconds to claim the fifth overall spot and earn first-team All-American honors. This achievement not only highlights Joseph’s talent and hard work but also sets a strong foundation for her upcoming outdoor track season.
Thai Thompson Impresses in Men’s Heptathlon
Senior Thai Thompson represented Iowa State well in the men’s heptathlon, where he displayed his versatility and skill across seven challenging events. Despite the tough competition, Thompson managed to secure a commendable 10th place finish overall.
Thompson’s standout moment came during the 1000-meter run, where he delivered a stellar performance, clinching second place with a personal best time of 2:37.63. This achievement earned him second team All-American honors, reflecting his dedication and talent as a track and field athlete.
Darius Kipyego’s Strong Showing in Men’s 800-meter Event
In the men’s 800-meter event, senior Darius Kipyego represented Iowa State with a remarkable display of speed and stamina. Kipyego blazed through the preliminaries with a lightning-fast time of 1:47.21, securing the fourth spot for the finals on Saturday night.
Despite facing tough competition in the finals, Kipyego maintained a strong performance, finishing with a time of 1:48.79 and securing a seventh-place finish. This achievement not only highlights Kipyego’s talent and hard work but also earns him first-team All-American honors, capping off a successful indoor season for the Cyclones.
