UNI Wrestling Makes History with First NWCA National Dual Meet Championship Win
CEDAR FALLS – The UNI wrestling team achieved a historic milestone at the National Wrestling Coaches Association’s Multi-Division National Dual Meet Championships. The Panthers’ exceptional performance on Friday carried through to Saturday as they triumphed over both Northern Colorado and No. 14 South Dakota State to secure their first title at the event in program history.
Dominating both matches with 30+ points each, UNI extended their unbeaten dual record to 8-0 this season. Little Rock claimed the third spot, with South Dakota State finishing fourth, followed by Penn, Wyoming, Central Michigan, and Drexel in the 14-team bracket.
### UNI’s Victory Over Northern Colorado
The action-packed day began with No. 32 Trever Anderson squaring off against sixth-ranked Stevo Poulin at 125 pounds. Despite a strong effort, Anderson fell short, losing the match 8-4. However, the Panthers quickly bounced back with standout performances from Julian Farber, Cael Happel, Colin Realbuto, Ryder Downey, Jack Thomsen, Jared Simma, Parker Keckeisen, Wyatt Voelker, and Lance Runyon.
### UNI’s Triumph Against South Dakota State
In a rematch with South Dakota State, UNI showcased their prowess once again. Kyle Gollhofer set the tone, followed by impressive wins from Farber, Happel, Realbuto, Downey, Thomsen, Simma, Keckeisen, Voelker, and Adam Ahrendsen.
