Governor Kim Reynolds Attends Inauguration and Key Meetings in D.C.

Governor Kim Reynolds of Iowa is set to travel to Washington D.C. to attend Monday’s presidential inauguration ceremony at the U.S. Capitol. Following the ceremony, she plans to meet with key Trump Administration officials to discuss critical issues.

During an interview, Reynolds shared her excitement about being part of the presidential inauguration once again. She reflected on her first experience attending Trump’s inauguration in 2017 as Iowa’s lieutenant governor, describing it as an exciting time that she had never experienced before.

Pushing for More Federal Funds and State Authority

While in Washington, Governor Reynolds is scheduled to meet with Trump’s nominee to lead the USDA to address the bird flu outbreak. She also plans to meet with various cabinet secretaries to advocate for sending more federal funds to states in the form of block grants. Reynolds believes that granting states more authority on fund allocation will be beneficial as it allows state officials to have greater control over how the money is spent within their borders.

Reynolds emphasized the importance of moving federal agencies out of D.C. and closer to the people they serve. She suggested that relocating agency headquarters to different states could potentially reduce the federal workforce, with some employees opting to resign rather than relocate.

Inauguration Ceremony Details and Expectations

Due to the frigid forecast for Washington on Monday, the inauguration ceremony will be held indoors at the Capitol. Iowa Congresswoman Ashley Hinson anticipates that Trump’s second inaugural address will focus on key issues he raised during the 2024 campaign.

Hinson believes that Trump will outline a bold agenda aimed at ensuring the safety, prosperity, and success of the American people. She expressed her support for the president and mentioned that several hundred Iowans are expected to attend the inauguration.

On Trump Social, the president announced that Capitol One Arena in Washington will be open for live viewing of the ceremony, which is a departure from the traditional outdoor setting. Forecasters predict strong winds on Monday, leading to a “feels like” temperature of around 10 degrees at noon when Trump is scheduled to take the oath of office.
