A Life Well-Lived
Born on July 24, 1951, in Forest City, Pete was the son of Harold and Selma Peterson. He graduated from Forest City High School in 1969 and embarked on a career at Winnebago Industries, where he dedicated 23 years of service until 1998. It was on July 20, 1973, that Pete exchanged vows with Jane Sleper at Ramsey Reformed Church near Titonka, marking the beginning of a love story that spanned 22 years. Following his time at Winnebago, Pete pursued entrepreneurship by opening the Three B’s Grocery Store in Crystal Lake, showcasing his business acumen and dedication to his community. His career path later led him to roles in the sanitary crew and as a security guard, culminating in his retirement in 2013 at the age of 62. In his retirement years, Pete found joy in bartending and waiting tables at Mat’s Place in Garner, where his warm personality and friendly demeanor endeared him to all who knew him.
A Man of Many Passions
Pete’s life was rich with the things he loved most: family, friends, and a community he cherished. He found joy in spending time with his loved ones, particularly his children and grandchildren, with whom he shared special moments playing cards and golfing. His grandchildren, whom he affectionately praised as “such good drivers on the carts,” were a source of pride and happiness for Pete. In his leisure time, he enjoyed taking naps, watching classic westerns, and enthusiastically supporting his grandchildren at their sporting events, all while cheering on his favorite teams, including the Green Bay Packers, GHV Cardinals, Forest City Indians, W-CL-T Tigers, and West Hancock Eagles. Pete’s commitment to his community was unwavering, evidenced by his membership in the Crystal Lake United Methodist Church and his 34-year tenure on the Crystal Lake Fire Department.
A Legacy of Love
Pete’s memory lives on through those he leaves behind, including his former spouse, Jane Peterson of Garner; his children, Brooke (Ryan) Hinders of Garner, Brandy (Randy) Huling of Sheffield, and Brett (Shelbey) Peterson of Garner; and his cherished grandchildren: Heston, Laingstin, Quinlynn, Boyden, Keanna, Keira, Keifer, Kemlin, Alexis, and Beckett.
