Charles “Chuck” Whitt, a beloved figure in North Iowa, passed away peacefully at the age of 81 in Mason City, Iowa, on Thursday, December 19, 2024. Chuck’s life was a testament to love, laughter, and hard work, deeply rooted in family and community.
The Life of Chuck Whitt
Chuck Whitt was born on January 26, 1943, in Mason City to John Roger and Harriett Jane Whitt. He grew up attending country school and Clear Lake High School before graduating from Mason City High School in 1961. Chuck furthered his education at Mason City Junior College and served proudly in the United States Army from 1964 to 1966, achieving a rank of E-5 while stationed in Germany.
After his military service, Chuck returned to Iowa, where he met Sandy Rieber, the love of his life, on a blind date arranged by mutual friends. The couple married in July of 1968 and began their life in Iowa Falls before moving back to Mason City to start farming on his uncle’s farm.
A Legacy of Family and Community
Chuck and Sandy’s family grew to include their children Tony and Lani, along with four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Chuck was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who shared his passions for hunting, fishing, restoring classic cars and tractors, and collecting vintage signs with his loved ones.
Chuck was not only a skilled craftsman but also a successful entrepreneur, owning and operating Charles Whitt Trucking and Whitt Chemical and Supply while maintaining his farming work. His commitment to excellence and tireless work ethic earned him respect and admiration from all who knew him in the Mason City community.
Remembering Chuck Whitt
Chuck Whitt’s impact extended beyond his family and businesses. He was a familiar face in Mason City, known for his generosity, sociability, and love for coffee gatherings with friends. Chuck’s connections with others were cherished, whether at home or during memorable travels with Sandy to Japan and Singapore.
Chuck was a longtime member of Epiphany Parish – Holy Family Catholic Church and the American Legion, demonstrating his commitment to faith and service. His legacy lives on through his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, and in-laws, all grateful for sharing in his remarkable life.
In memory of Chuck Whitt, a Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, December 30, 2024, at Epiphany Parish – Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City. Visitation will take place on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel. For those unable to attend, a livestream of the Mass will be available through Epiphany Parish’s YouTube channel.
