Geoffroy Hall, located at 2152 Lincoln Way next to Buchanan Hall, is a popular spot for Iowa State students looking for summer housing. While many students head home after finals and the end of the spring semester, those who stay behind have the option to live in the dorms over the summer months.

Chad Bauman, the marketing specialist for the residence halls, revealed in an email interview that Buchanan Hall is open for students seeking summer accommodation. According to Bauman, the cost is $1,474 for a double suite and $1,692 for a single suite in Buchanan Hall for the summer. He also mentioned that students have the flexibility to pay for just one class session if they don’t plan to stay for the entire summer.

Bauman emphasized that all the resources and amenities available during the academic year are also accessible during the summer months. He highlighted the convenience of living close to everything students need to succeed, with professional staff available 24/7 to provide support and guidance. Despite the lower student population on campus during the summer, Bauman assured that the environment in the dorms remains similar to that of the academic year.

Reid May, a senior in kinesiology and health, shared his experience working as a Resident Assistant (RA) during the previous summer. He described the atmosphere on campus during the summer as more relaxed compared to the busyness of the academic year, with fewer students around. May mentioned that even though there were fewer students, the dorms still organized events, albeit in a more laid-back manner.

Looking ahead to his first summer living on campus, Samarth Sontate, a freshman in aerospace engineering, expressed his excitement for the upcoming season. He mentioned his plans to work, recover from the academic year, and explore more of Ames during the summer break. Sontate’s eagerness for the summer living experience reflects the anticipation shared by many students staying on campus during the break.

In conclusion, the opportunity to live in the dorms during the summer provides a unique experience for students at Iowa State University. The laid-back atmosphere, combined with access to essential resources and support from staff, offers a comfortable living situation for those who choose to stay on campus. Whether it’s working, relaxing, or exploring the town, summer living in the dorms presents students with a chance to unwind and recharge before the start of the new academic year.
