Woman in Charles City Faces Legal Woes Amid Multiple Evictions
In a series of incidents this month, a 35-year-old woman in Charles City, Yelena Harp, has found herself in hot water with the law as she faces eviction from multiple locations. The Charles City police have had multiple encounters with Harp, resulting in a string of charges and legal battles.
Multiple Altercations with Law Enforcement
On December 12th, police responded to a call at the 400 block of 7th Avenue to remove Harp from the premises. However, the situation escalated when Harp resisted and refused to comply with law enforcement. As a result, she was charged with interference with official acts (two counts), trespassing, and assault on a peace officer. The total cost of the trespassing charges amounted to $630.00. Harp is currently awaiting a hearing scheduled for December 30th to address the interference and assault charges.
Just three days later, on December 15th, police were once again called to the 400 block of 7th Avenue due to a disturbance involving Harp. She was arrested for trespassing, and the case is pending in court with Harp being represented by a public defender. A trial date has been set for January 29, 2025.
Christmas Day Trouble
The legal woes continued for Harp on Christmas Day when police were summoned to the 900 block of Spriggs Street to remove her from the premises. This time, she faced charges of trespassing and interference with official acts. Harp pleaded guilty to both charges, resulting in a $630.00 fine for trespassing and a ten-day jail sentence for interference.
History of Legal Issues
This recent string of incidents is not the first time Yelena Harp has had run-ins with the law. In May 2021, she was involved in a case of criminal mischief at the 800 block of 9th Avenue. Harp had threatened and damaged property, resulting in charges of fifth-degree criminal mischief. Despite being ordered to pay $218.38 to the Iowa courts, Harp has yet to fulfill this financial obligation.
