Mark Allan Werstein: A Life Celebrated
Mark Allan Werstein, a beloved individual from Cedar Rapids, tragically passed away on December 24, 2024, at the University of Iowa in Iowa City after a brief illness. He was 64 years old.
A Life Well-Lived
Mark was born on October 24, 1960, in Mason City, to Donald D. and Joan L. Werstein. He grew up in Clear Lake, where he was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church. After graduating from Clear Lake High School in 1979, Mark pursued further education at NIACC and the University of Iowa, focusing on Marketing. His career path led him to Dallas, TX, before returning to NIACC to become an Electronics Technician. Eventually, Mark found his place at Rockwell Collins (now Collins Aerospace) in Cedar Rapids, where he dedicated his time and skills.
A Passion for the Outdoors and Sports
Mark had a deep love for outdoor activities, whether it was biking, skiing, or golfing. He cherished the time spent under the sun, enjoying nature’s beauty. As a sports enthusiast, Mark passionately supported his favorite teams, the Iowa Hawkeyes, Minnesota Vikings, and Minnesota Twins. However, his greatest joy came from being surrounded by family and friends, especially during the Clear Lake Fireworks display each year.
Fondly Remembered
Mark is survived by his mother, Joan; brother, Kevin (Nina); nieces and nephews, Casey, Shannon, and Courtney; aunt, E. Jean (Douglas) Olmsted; cousins; and cherished friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald, along with other family members.
Mark’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. A Memorial Service in his honor will take place on January 18, 2025, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel in Clear Lake, IA. Visitation will be held prior to the service, offering a chance for friends and family to come together and celebrate the life of a remarkable individual.
In the midst of sorrow, let us remember the light and joy that Mark brought into the world. May his spirit continue to inspire us to cherish each moment and value the relationships that truly matter.
