Remembering Dale W. Witt: A Tribute to a Life Well-Lived

Dale W. Witt, a beloved member of the Nora Springs community, passed away peacefully at the age of 98 on January 22, 2025, at the Nora Springs Care Center. His life will be celebrated and honored at a Funeral Service scheduled for 11:00 AM on Monday, January 27, 2025, at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, located at 114 N Hawkeye Ave, Nora Springs, Iowa. Reverend Paul Boostrom will be officiating the service, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM, an hour prior to the service. Dale will be laid to rest at Park Cemetery in Nora Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society.

Remembering a Local Legend

Dale W. Witt’s journey began on May 25, 1926, when he was born at home in rural Nora Springs to William and Myrtie Witt. He attended Rockford number four country school for eight years before graduating from Nora Springs High School in 1943. Following his education, Dale joined his father in farming and later served in the US Navy from 1950 to 1954. Upon returning home, he continued farming with his brother, Harold, until his retirement in 1988.

A Life Well-Lived

In 1971, after the passing of his parents, Dale purchased the family farm, which was later recognized as a Century Farm in 2003. Beyond his dedication to agriculture, Dale enjoyed traveling to Arizona to watch professional golf tournaments and indulging in some friendly gambling in Las Vegas. He cherished his time attending USS New Jersey reunions in Philadelphia, PA, and in retirement, found joy in golfing, watching baseball games, and solving crossword puzzles. Dale was a familiar face at the Nora Springs American Legion Post 449 and the USS New Jersey Veterans, Inc., where he forged lasting friendships and memories.

Legacy of Love

Dale Witt leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, survived by his nephew Jim Witt and three nieces: Barb O’Donnell, Jolene Juhl, and Cindy Fink. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and several other relatives. His impact on the community and his unwavering dedication to family and friends will forever be remembered and cherished.
