Shirley Ann Johnson: A Life Remembered
In a somber turn of events, Shirley Ann Johnson, a beloved member of the Algona community, passed away at the age of 90 on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at the Algona Manor Care Center. The news of her passing has left a void in the hearts of those who knew her, but her memory lives on through the legacy she leaves behind.
A Life Well-Lived
Shirley Ann Johnson was born on February 16, 1934, in Allen, Nebraska, to John Edwin and Gertrude Freda Eiben. She was a woman of many accomplishments, graduating as the Valedictorian of her class from Viola High School in 1951. On December 9, 1951, she exchanged vows with Darrell Johnson in Audubon, Iowa, beginning a journey of love and partnership that would last a lifetime.
Cherished Memories
Shirley was a dedicated member of the First Lutheran Church in Algona and actively participated in various community organizations, including the VFW Auxiliary and the Federated Women’s Club. Her love for adventure led her to travel to all 50 states and all 99 counties in Iowa, creating cherished memories with her family along the way. Shirley took great pride in her beautiful flowers, a testament to her nurturing spirit and love for nature.
A Legacy of Love
Shirley’s memory will forever be cherished by her children, Iris (Dennis) Erdmann, Gene (Jody) Johnson, Dorueen (Mark) Kemna, and Terry (Eileen) Johnson, along with her 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Lyle (Darline) Eiben and Jerry (Linda) Eiben, as well as sisters-in-law Mary Eiben and Ruth Eiben.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, John and Gertrude, her husband Darrell, and several other family members. As the community mourns the loss of Shirley Ann Johnson, they also celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy of love that will endure for generations to come.
