Lu L. (Aguilera) DeLaHunt, a beloved individual from Tempe, AZ, and formerly of Mason City, IA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 26, 2024, at the Tempe Post Acute Care Center. She was 90 years old.
A Celebration of Life Service in honor of Lu will be held at 2:30 pm on Friday, January 31, 2025, at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel located at 126 3rd Street NE in Mason City, IA. Prior to the service, there will be a visitation held for one hour.
Remembering Lu L. DeLaHunt: A Life Well-Lived
Lu L. DeLaHunt, born on July 20, 1934, in Frost, MN, was the daughter of Joseph and Trina Cecelia (Ochoa) Aguilera. Growing up with eight siblings, Lu attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Manly, IA, before continuing her education at Manly Senior High School. She was the proud mother of four children, Thomas, Brett, Amy, and Paula.
Lu was known for her straightforward and no-nonsense attitude. She once remarked that she would be content if her obituary simply read, “I lived and I died.” Her honesty, independence, and zest for life left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Lu’s dedication to her work and her passion for finding treasures while shopping brought her immense joy.
A Legacy of Love and Family
Lu L. DeLaHunt is survived by her children, Thomas (Jan) Aguilera of Ellendale, MN, Brett (Theresa “Terri”) DeLaHunt of Waterloo, IA, Amy Pfeifer of Roscoe, IL, and Paula (John) Adams of Tempe, AZ. She also leaves behind many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as siblings, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Lu was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Trina, brothers Joseph and David Aguilera, sister Lucy Hausman, brother-in-law Carroll Terhark, sister-in-law Ann Aguilera, and other family members.
Lu L. DeLaHunt’s legacy of love, honesty, and zest for life will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
