SHEFFIELD, IOWA – A recent auto collision just north of Sheffield left two men injured and in need of medical attention at Mercy Hospital. On December 28, 2024, at 7:21 PM, the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Partridge Avenue (Highway 65) and 105th Street in Sheffield.
According to authorities, the collision involved 30-year-old Trent William Abbas from Wellsburg, Iowa, who was traveling south in a red 2022 GMC Sierra, and 33-year-old Scott William Weydert from Rockwell, Iowa, who was driving north in a maroon 2000 Buick LeSabre. The vehicles collided in the 1000 block of Partridge Avenue, resulting in severe disabling damage to both vehicles and the deployment of airbags.
Despite wearing their seat belts, both drivers sustained injuries in the collision and were subsequently taken to Mercy One North Iowa by emergency responders for treatment. The authorities noted that dense fog in the area played a role in the accident.
