Jerold “Jerry” Jay Watson Remembered: A Legacy of Love and Dedication
On January 7, 2025, the farming community of Ventura, Iowa, bid farewell to a beloved member, Jerold “Jerry” Jay Watson. Born on January 7, 1939, Jerry passed away on his 86th birthday at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral arrangements have been made to honor Jerry’s life and legacy. A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 13th, at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church in Clear Lake, Iowa. Reverend Sylvester Holima will officiate the service, paying tribute to Jerry’s remarkable life and contributions. Prior to the service, visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 12th, at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel in Clear Lake, followed by an additional hour of visitation at the church on Monday. Jerry will be laid to rest in Pleasant View Cemetery in Thornton, Iowa, a final resting place overlooking the land he cherished.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that any memorials be directed to the Clear Lake United Methodist Church in Jerry’s memory, honoring his lifelong dedication to faith and community.
A Life of Farming and Family
Jerry’s journey began in Mason City, Iowa, where he was born to Gerald and Nellie Watson. Growing up, Jerry developed a love for agriculture through his involvement in horse showing, 4-H, and the FFA. This passion guided him throughout his life, leading him to a career in farming after graduating from Clear Lake High School in 1958.
On September 20, 1960, Jerry married Judy, his partner in life and farming. Together, they built a family farm from the ground up, starting with humble beginnings in a simple home without modern amenities. Their hard work and dedication laid the foundation for a thriving farm that would be passed down through generations.
A Lasting Legacy
Jerry’s impact extended far beyond the boundaries of his farm. Known for his kind heart and sense of humor, he touched the lives of everyone he met. Whether he was sharing stories about his work or lending a helping hand on the farm, Jerry’s presence was a source of joy and inspiration to those around him.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 64 years, Judy, their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a large extended family. His legacy of hard work, dedication, and unwavering love for his family and the land he cultivated will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
