A beloved member of the Greene community, Carol Diane Arjes, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on October 8, 1948, in Waverly, Iowa, Carol was the daughter of William and Hermina Shreve and grew up in a loving family environment. She graduated from Dumont High School, where she laid the foundation for a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
On April 12, 1969, Carol exchanged vows with the love of her life, Delvin John Arjes, in a union that was blessed with two wonderful sons and another son who brought immeasurable joy into their lives. Throughout her career, Carol worked as a dedicated cook at Liebe Care Center and the Greene Community School District, eventually retiring as the head cook at the high school. Her passion for her work extended beyond preparing meals; she formed deep connections with the students, who she saw as an extension of her own family. Many students invited her to their graduations, a testament to the impact she had on their lives.
A devout member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Carol shared a special bond with her husband Delvin, often embarking on day trips to visit relatives and explore antique shops in the area. Their adventures always led them back home, where they found comfort in each other’s company. Carol had a keen interest in reading, often immersing herself in books, crossword puzzles, and word games. However, her most cherished moments revolved around spending time with her grandchildren, creating lasting memories that would be treasured forever.
Carol’s legacy lives on through her sons: Jon (Ketta) Arjes of Webster City, Jason Arjes of Greene, and Jim (Shannon) Arjes of Waverly, as well as her beloved grandchildren: Blake, Megan, and Allison Arjes. She is also survived by her sisters, Vada Shreve and Kathy (Chuck) Smith of Allison, her brother-in-law Darvin (Cheryle) Arjes of Greene, and numerous nieces and nephews. Carol is preceded in death by her husband Delvin, her parents, Delvin’s parents John and Mary Arjes, as well as her brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert (Marguerite) Shreve and Darwin (JoAnn) Shreve.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during visitation hours at Woodley Funeral Home, located at 519 N. 1st St. in Greene, Iowa, on Friday, February 7, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will follow, offering an opportunity for loved ones to come together in remembrance and solidarity. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Carol’s memory may consider making donations to the Greene Volunteer Ambulance or Greene Fire Department, organizations that held a special place in her heart.
