Shane Michael Girres: A Life Remembered

Emmetsburg, Iowa – October 8, 1984, a day that marked the beginning of Shane Michael Girres’ journey on this earth. Fast forward 40 years, and on December 27, 2024, in Graettinger, Iowa, the world bid farewell to a beloved son, brother, friend, and community member.

Born to William and Susan Girres, Shane’s story unfolded in the heart of North Iowa. A proud graduate of Graettinger High School, class of 2003, Shane’s passion for farming was evident as he worked alongside his father, tending to the land that held generations of memories.

Beyond the fields, Shane found joy in the music of the 50s and 60s, cheering on the Carolina Panthers, rooting for the Graettinger-Terril Sports teams, and immersing himself in the world of video games. His eclectic interests painted a vivid picture of a man who cherished the simple pleasures in life.

A Heart of Gold

Shane’s warm spirit and willingness to lend a helping hand endeared him to all who knew him. A devoted member of the Grandview Baptist Church in Estherville, Shane’s faith was the cornerstone of his compassionate nature. Whether it was offering a listening ear, a kind word, or a helping hand, Shane’s presence left a lasting impact on those around him.

The loss of his mother, Susan Girres, and his grandparents, Bill and Ruth Ellis, and Arnold and Agnes Girres, leaves a void that can never be filled.
